We all love making, creating, "craft"-ing! Making things with our hands not only brings joy, but has the potential to change the world.
Historically, industry and the manufacturing of goods happened in communities, by talented local people whose skill contributed to their communities, supported their families, and fed their souls. Community members of all ages were engaged in this process – think cobblers, bakers, carpenters, potters. Engagement with craft, and making is a great antidote to anxiety, lack of confidence and inertia. It motivates, inspires, and delights!
My hope is to bring together artists who have taken the time and care to build their skill and demonstrate a caliber of expertise that recognizes the time honoured tradition and spirit of their craft. We want to promote artists willing to share their skill, knowledge and the craft that supports them and their families. Let's challenge mainstream objectives of production, efficiency, profit, and – together – inspire engagement in craft, craftsmanship, and pride in the process.
As we strive to motivate our youth to take an interest in a craft that can bring themselves and others joy, we have invited art students from Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School to showcase their talents at this years festival.
To help with Rosemary's mission of changing the world, one artisan festival at a time, an amazing and talented group of ladies who met in Rosemary's studio collaborated to create the first annual Dundee Artisan Festival.
